Morgen ist er: der March Against Monsanto, die weltweite Demonstartion gegen Monsanto.
Was Monsanto ist?
Monsanto ist ein amerikanischer Saatgutkonzern mit Niederlassung in 61 Ländern. Besonders spezialisiert hat sich Monsanto auf die Biotechnologie, also die Grüne Gentechnik. In diesem Bereich ist Monsanto der größte Hersteller und hat mit einem Marktanteil von ca. 90 % nahezu das Monopol [gentechnikfreie-regionen.de].Außerdem ist der Konzern auch bekannt für seine Pestizide und Herbizide, sowie Düngemittel, insbesondere für Round up und andere Mittel mit dem Wirkstoff Glyphosphat.
Warum eine Demonstration dagegen?
Entgegen der weitläufig bekannten Meinung, Grüne Gentechnik würde die Welternährung sichern, leistet sie eher Kontraarbeit. Unmengen an Studien bestätigen das Gegenteil [ISTAAD (2009) & TAB (Technikfolgeabschätzung des
dt. Bundestages)]. Die Argumente, die auf der offiziellen Homepage von Monsanto aufgelistet sind, können allesammt widerlegt werden z.B. die Ertragssteigerung bleibt aus [IAASTD(2009)]. Grüne Gentechnik gefährdet die Umwelt [CHEN et al. 2004; HOWE et al.
2004; RELYEA (2005)]
und die eigene Gesundheit [Willenbrock et al. (2009)]. (Letztes Jahr verfasste ich dazu eine Komplexe Leistung "Grüne Gentechnik- Welternmährung oder Weltzerstörung?").
Zusätzlich zu der Sache mit der Biotechnologie kommt jedoch auch der Verkauf angeblich unschädlicher Pestizide, wobei die Unschädlichkeit ebenfalls größtenteils von abhängigen Wissenschaftlern geprüft wurde.
Zahlreiche Skandale zeigen, dass diese Pestizide schädlich sind. Sie machen den Boden unfruchtbar, sorgen für Missgeburten und Fehlbildungen beim Menschen [Willenbrock et al. (2009)] und Schädigen die Umwelt
[RELYEA 2005]. Übrigens ist Monsanto auch einer der Konzerne, deren Agent Orange für den Vietnam Krieg eingesetzt wurde [Wikipedia], und ich denke jeder weiß, wie sich dieses Baumwollpestizid auf die Umwelt auswirkt. Ein weiterer Punkt gegen Monsanto ist das rechtliche Vorgehen. In den USA spioniert der Konzern den Bauern nach und verklagt viele, weil sie angeblich illegal genverändertes Saatgut anbauen würden, weshalb sie das Patent verletzetn würden.Gegenklagen zwecklos, denn der Milliardenschwere Konzern weiß sich zu wehren, ziehen sich seine Mitglieder doch sogar durch die amerikanische Regierung

What Monsanto is?
Monsanto is an American Seedconcern with branches in 61 countries. The consern is specialised on biotechnology which means genetic modified seed. In this subject Monsanto has with a market share of 90% nearly the monopole [gentechnikfreie-regionen.de]. Additionally the concern is known for the production of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers like Round up and others with the active agent glyphosphat.
Why demonstrating against them?
Against the popular opinion that genetic modified seed (GMS) would be the only way to feed the rising global population GMS endangers the nutrision of the population [ISTAAD (2009) & TAB (Technikfolgeabschätzung des
dt. Bundestages)], the environment [CHEN et al. 2004; HOWE et al.
2004; RELYEA (2005)] and the health of all of us [Willenbrock et al. (2009)]. All of the argument listed on the homepage of Monsanto pro GMO are disproved by many independant scientists f.e.: [ISTAAD

Further they are producing allegded harmless pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers but the harmlessness is only proofed by dependant scientists. They dour the soil, are responsible for lots of miscarriages and congenital anomalies [Willenbrock et al. (2009)]. There have been many scandals in history which are caused by Monsanto. Apropos Monsanto is one of the concerns which produced (and still produces) the cotton pesticide Agent Orange [Wikipedia] which was used in the war of Vietnam. And I think you know how poisonous Agent Orange is.
Another point against Monsanto is its way of juridical actions. The farmers in the USA are nosed out by Monsanto and some of them are accused to have injured the patents of Monsanto. And even if they haven't did so opposition against this billions worth concern is pointless. They have to much power. Important members of the American regiment are also members of Monsanto. Isn't it odd? [Food Inc.]
