zurück aus dem Kyffhäuser

Nun hatte ich eine Woche Zeit mich zu überzeugen und habe festgestellt: der Kyffhäuser ist sehr schön. Zu bieten hat er auch einige Berühmtheiten, wozu das Barbarossadenkmal, die Barbarossahöhle, die weltgrößte Rosensammlung und der schiefste Kirchturm Deutschlands zählen.

Aber dazu später mehr, erstmal nur zum Turm:

Now I'm back. One week I have been to the Kyffhäuser and I ascertained that it is beautiful. It has many sights to afford: the Barbarossa monument, the cave of  Barbarossa, the world's biggest collection of roses and Germanys most leaning chruch tower. Later I'll tell you more about all of them but now only to the tower:

Tatsächlich ist der Bad Frankenhausener Kirchturm sehr schief und hat einen Überhang von über 4m, womit er den schiefen Turm von Pisa eindeutig schlägt. Doch viel weiter darf er nicht mehr kippen, denn dann war's das mit ihm. Sicherungsmaßnahmen sind zwar im Gang, aber das Geld fehlt.

Doch zum Glück gibt es überall im Kyffhäuser schiefe Kirchtürme. Woran das liegt?

Ganz klar: an der Geologie. Denn der Kyffhäuser liegt auf Salz und Anhydrit. Ersteres verändert sich ständig und wird herausgespült, zweiteres ist ein Gestein, welches bei Berührung mit Wasser sein Volumen enrom vergrößert und zu Gips wird. So kommt es also, dass im Kyffhäuser unter der Erde viel vor sich geht. Zum Nachteil der Kirchtürme...

Indeed the church tower of Bad Frankenhausen has an overhang of more than 4 m. This is more than the Leaning Tower of Pisa has! There are protective measures but it tilts 2cm each year and money is missing. But luckily there are many leaning church towers in the Kyffhäuser. Why? 

The reason is of course geology. Under the Kyffhäuser there is salt and anhydrite. Salt is everytime in movement and anhydrit changes its volume and becomes gypsum when there is contact with water. So there is a lot of movement under the earth for the disadvantage of the church towers...
